The Slow Web

This idea is very nascent, and the idea goes something like this: things have become very fast, largely attributable to the overwhelming amount of information coming towards us at all times at a blazing speed. How can we keep up? Do we really need to keep up? We probably can't get rid of the internet, or even the cloud at this point. What are the alternatives? What is the potential for something like a Slow Web?
